CAYHILL — The St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) welcomes a new medical specialist, Urologist, Dr. Carlos Rojas who started his tenure at SMMC early November.
With Dr. Rojas added to the medical roster, the Urology Department at SMMC now consists of 2 full time Urologists, as the current Urologist, Dr. Diego Ramos, who joined SMMC last year.

He completed his residency at the university’s hospital of Caracas from 1999-2002. Upon completion of his studies, Dr. Rojas worked as a clinical instructor in urology at the University for over 15 years teaching Urology to pre and postgraduate students. These experiences broadened his understanding of the wide range of urology care and treatment options available to patients.
Prior to joining SMMC, Dr. Rojas had a private practice in the Leopoldo Aguerrevere clinic in Eastern Caracas for 10 years. He comes to SMMC with over 16 years’ experience in the field of Urology. His clinical interests include all aspects of adult urology with a focus on urologic issues (bladder, prostate, kidney, testicular, erectile dysfunction) and Urogynecology problems (pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence). He also has advanced training in minimally invasive surgical approaches (laparoscopic) as well as the traditional open approach.
“I have a true passion for urology because this area of medicine continuously advances toward more minimally invasive and non-invasive treatment options that can dramatically improve a patient’s quality of life,” Dr. Rojas explains. “I am excited to begin my work here at SMMC and continue with the excellent quality of service provided for our patients”.
