After the passing of Hurricane Irma each and every school on Sint Maarten sustained either minor or major damage. The immediate concern of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport was to reopen schools as soon as it was feasible and safe.
Secretary General of the Ministry, Jorien Wuite, describes the enormous challenges after the storm and how with the help of many partners locally and internationally schools were made ready in a record amount of time; with many schools having to be accommodated in temporary situations.
Jorien also speaks to the Ministry’s intent on using the experience of this Hurricane to rebuild all schools to better handle any future storms. #SXMSTRONG
